Shehu Dikko Says NPFL Is Still On Despite NFF’s Statement 1

The chairman of the League Management Committee (LMC), Shehu Dikko, has shut down news going around that the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matches have been suspended.

This comes after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced the suspension of NPFL matches following the death of Nasarawa United player, Chineme Martins.

Martins slumped in the Solid Miners clash against Katsina United at Lafia Township Stadium on Sunday. Efforts to revive him proved abortive as he gave up the ghost at the hospital.

However, things could have been different if an ambulance had arrived on time, and there was also proper medical equipment in place.

Following the tragic incident, the NFF announced the suspension of the league until there’s medical equipment compliance at all match venues.

However, the LMC chairman, Shehu Dikko, believes the media took NFF’s statement out of context. He said it only means matches will not start at venues where they don’t have adequate medical tools.

“The above statement (NFF) does not translate to a blanket suspension of the league but not to allow a game to start at any venue that is in breach”, Dikko said on NPFL website.
