Nigeria’s border closure: Burkina Faso president heads ECOWAS investigation committee 1

The closure of Nigeria’s land borders by the federal government to check illegal trading has finally got the attention of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government has set up a committee to investigate the issues surrounding the closure.

Premium Times reports that the committee is headed by President Roch Kabore of Burkina Faso who is expected to give full report of the findings.

The decision to probe the border closure was reached on Sunday, February 9, on the margins of the 33rd AU summit going on in Ethiopia.

Recall that the Nigerian government had in August 2019 closed its land borders to check widespread smuggling and protect local manufactures
