Newcastle United join Chelsea, Arsenal in race for highly-coveted Super Eagles star

Four-time English Premier League winners, Newcastle United, have joined a host of English top-flight teams as they look to land Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, this summer, 9JaUpDate247 reports.

The 26-year-old was keen on a mega move away from Napoli last season, but the £113m demands of the Italian club saw Osimhen end up joining Galatasaray on a season-long loan.

His loan spell has been productive so far, as he’s scored 17 goals and provided five assists in 23 games across all competitions for Okan Buruk’s side.

As per Chronicle Live, Newcastle were offered the chance to sign Osimhen from Napoli last season, but his release clause put Eddie Howe’s side off.

The Magpies will be offered another chance to sign the ex-LOSC Lille striker this summer with Napoli keen to offload the 2023 CAF Player of the Year award winner.

Napoli, alongside their head coach, Antonio Conte, harbour no intention of keeping Osimhen at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium beyond this summer and are already working on alternative ways to sort the striker’s future as his Galatasaray loan spell draws closer to an end.

According to Football London, Victor Osimhen’s release clause will drop this summer, and he’ll be available for about £60m.

Galatasaray are top of the Turkish Super Lig, and would love the former VfL Wolfsburg man to stay but can’t afford to pay a permanent fee. The big question mark for Newcastle could be Osimhen’s wages with the striker picking up over £200,000 per week during his Napoli days. That is believed to have dropped to around £110,000 per week at Galatasaray but he is highly likely to leave Turkey after his loan deal.

Eddie Howe has hinted in his Friday presser that his side are looking to sign an established star this summer as they look to gun for trophies next season. With interest in Isak at an all-time high, signing Osimhen as a replacement for the Swedish International will be just perfect.

Arsenal, Man United and Chelsea have all looked closely at the one-time Serie A winner, meaning Newcastle face stiff competition in the race for the lethal finisher.

With Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz out for the season, Mikel Arteta will be desperate for a striker in the summer. Manchester United and Chelsea are looking for a finisher that can upgrade their attack as they’re not convinced with the options they currently have.

As per Football Transfers, Chelsea are planning a swap deal with Napoli for Osimhen, just like Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United.
