Iwobi sets end of season goal with Fulham

Super Eagles and Fulham midfielder, Alex Chuka Iwobi, has fixed his gaze on a finish in the English Premier League European spots at the end of the season with his club side, 9JaUpDate247 reports.

The 28-year-old is having his best individual season in the English top flight this campaign, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in 26 games for Marco Silva’s side.

Iwobi has played every league game for Fulham this season and with the Cottagers currently in 10th place on the Premier League table, the former Arsenal man has backed his teammates to finish strong with 12 games to go.

Fulham have accrued 39 points in the league this season, and are six points behind Newcastle United who currently occupy the UEFA Europa League qualification spot, but Iwobi is confident.

“Everyone is enjoying the ride, enjoying the journey, but we take it one step at a time. Everyone’s saying it’s a great season, but it hasn’t ended yet, so, hopefully, it ends up being a great season.

“Of course, it’ll be nice to get into Europe, especially for me, because I’ve played in it before, so I want to do it again, and when you see the quality that we have in training every day, and we’re getting results against big teams in the league who are competing in bigger competitions, we feel like we can do so as well, so, hopefully, next year, we can play in Europe,” the former Arsenal man said on the Fulham Fix Podcast.

Quizzed about his favourite memory of playing in Europe, Iwobi recalled his wondergoal against Chelsea in the 2019 UEFA Europa League in Baku.

“We played in Baku, it was so far to get there. It was a long journey, and I thought I’d start, but Unai Emery opted for another team, so I was a bit disappointed, I just thought I’d have to make an impact when I came on.

“Unfortunately we lost to Chelsea, but I was able to get the goal, which, obviously, was one of the best goals in my career,” the former Everton man concluded.

Iwobi has had double figures in goal contributions for the first time in his career this campaign. This season is also the first time he’s scored seven league goals.
