David Garland is Carving out His Own Lane on “Boy Enough”
David Garland’s “Boy Enough” EP is unlike anything you’ve heard from the Nigerian music industry in a long time. In an industry dominated by Afrobeats and more familiar sounding R&B and hip-hop records, it stands out, immersing itself in 80s-inspired sounds and the type of pensive, slow-brooding ballads popularized by artists like Sam Smith. The EP is three tracks long, featuring title track, “Boy Enough” and two versions of another track titled, “Eyes on You”.
Off the EP is this classic song titled “Eyes On You” by David Garland….
“Eyes on You” conversely, is a more upbeat record which sees Garland wax lyrical about a love interest, with whom he is thoroughly enamoured. It is reminiscent of the 80s disco era ruled by platform shoes, afros, and eccentric outfits, in which acts like Steve Monite and Oby Onyioha thrived.
