A 25-year-old security guard, Habila
Hayanchi, has been remanded in prison
custody by an Ilorin Magistrates’ Court sitting
in Kwara State, for allegedly stabbing » one
Mohammed Awwal, an
‘Okadaman’ (commercial motorcyclist), to
death over a fare of N200 fare.
According to reports, the incident happened on
March 21, 2015, at the Tanke area of Ilorin, the
state capital, after an argument that ensued
between him and Awwal.
The police prosecutor, Corporal Abegunde Elijah ,
had earlier told the court that the accused had,
during the argument, brought out a jerk knife and
stabbed the deceased » in the neck, arguing that
the offence committed by the accused was not
‘ordinarily bailable.’
Hayanchi was charged with culpable homicide
contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code to which
he pleaded not guilty and Magistrate Mohammed
Aluko, ordered the accused be remanded of the
accused in Okekura Prison, Ilorin, while he
adjourned the case until March 22 for hearing.
