12-star Bayern Munich subject Nigeria’s Olatunji to baptism of fire

The 24-year-old Nigerian centre-back had a night to forget as his Oberliga side had no answer to the superior firepower of the reigning Bundesliga champions

Nigeria’s Ikrami Olatunji lasted only 58 minutes for Bremer SV as Bayern Munich cruise to a 12-0 victory at the Weserstadion to secure safe passage to the next round of the DFB-Pokal.

Bremer SV had started their Oberliga campaign in excellent fashion after they forced a 3-1 thrashing down the throat of Blumenthaler SV at the weekend.

But they were clearly the underdogs on Wednesday night against the most successful German club in history.

Olatunji and his partner in the heart of the hosts’ defence, Ugo-Mario Nobile, struggled all evening with the sleek movement and intelligence of Bayern’s Cameroonian forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and German forward of Nigerian descent Jamal Musiala.

Choupo Moting had completed his hat-trick and Musiala had claimed his brace before Olatunji was withdrawn just before the hour-mark.

Julian Nagelsmann’s men were already leading by seven goals before the 24-year-old defender made way for Atsushi Waki. Ugo-Mario Nobile was shown a straight red for his troubles in the 76th minute as the visitors ran riot.

It came as no surprise that the home side couldn’t plug their leak afterwards as the former European champions found the back of the net five more times to secure a comprehensive victory.
